Barncroft Road, Berkhamsted

This project involved converting an existing bungalow into a new two storey house with loft rooms. The new house uses the footprint of the original property except for the projecting gable at the front, this enabled significant cost savings as the existing foundations could be used. Keeping to the footprint of the old bungalow, meant that the new house was seen as an ‘extension’ under planning rules as opposed to a new build house; this made it easier to gain permission. The front extension creates a triple height galleried entrance hall and dormer windows at the back create space for 2 bedrooms and a bathroom in the loft. At first floor level there are 3 bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms.
